2016 Ron Rubin Pinot Gris
Russian River Valley, California
Pinot Gris is very difficult to find in the Russian River Valley, with only 180 acres planted in the entire appellation. Low yielding and challenging to grow (like its cousin Pinot Noir), Pinot Gris requires a very attentive grower. These vines were hand tended to maximize their potential. Pale yellow in color and has delicate floral, stone fruit, pear, and peppermint aromas. It also has fleshy yet bright acidity and fresh fruit flavors of peach, apricot, and Asian pear. The finish has hints of minerality.

A blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache that was brought up in concrete tanks (Grenache) and demi-muids (Syrah), It reminded me of a mini Syrah from California’s Manfred Krankl (yes I just compared a $18 Syrah to Sine Qua Non). It’s a ripe, sexy, heady beauty that exhibits a deep, purple color as well as killer notes of smoked meats, chocolate, blackberry and black raspberries. Deep, unctuous, open knit and layered, it continues to change in the glass, has a seamless and silky profile, and not a hard edge to be found. 2016 Golden Chardonnay

The golden yellow hue is clearly embraced through the clear glass bottle.
Classic tropical and stone fruit aromas of peaches, pineapple, papaya, apricot, and banana with notes of lemon zest, orange blossom, and vanilla cream. In the glass, there is a sophisticated balance of fruit, mineral, oak, and acid. The fruit and acid are at the forefront with bright pineapple, peach, and star fruit. The minerality lingers on the mid-palate and finish. The oak is very subtle, and grounds the flavors by adding a soft vanilla bean nuttiness, like the perfect pie crust of a meringue pie.
