Hess Collection Su’skol Chardonnay, 2009
The 2009 Hess Collection Napa Valley Chardonnay shows aromas of honeysuckle, and follows with apple, pear and nectarine on the palate. The wine displays nice viscosity in the mid-palate, but remains defined by the cleansing acidity in the finish. Some 45% of the Chardonnay is allowed to undergo Malolactic fermentation prior to aging in small oak barrels, with 22% in new French oak, and the balance mostly in a mixture of once and twice-used French oak

Embruix, Catalan for bewitching is a glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up an enticing bouquet of underbrush, damp earth, mineral, quetincense, black currant and black cherry. This is followed by a full-bodied, dense, savory wine with layers of spicy fruit and a lengthy, pure finish.

Rich but very well-focused, with Kenya AA coffee framing the roasted fig, hoisin sauce and plum pudding notes, which glide through the graphite-supported finish. Muscular, but defined and fresh. Impressive.
