NV Franck Peillot Bugey Montagnieu Brut Methode Traditionelle
Savoie, France
Composed improbably of around one third each Chardonnay, Altesse, and quickly-pressed Mondeuse,
Lemon, fresh apple, yellow plum, freshly milled grain, musky narcissus, and intimations of maritime breeze in the nose lead to a palate subtly creamy yet bright; generously juicy with apple and lemon; and transparent to savory nuances of saline, alkaline, subtly sweet raw scallop. This finishes with saliva- as well as next sip-inducement and an invigorating twang of lees, mineral, and citrus zest. The quality of mousse, incidentally, is reasonably fine. In short, you won’t find many more interesting non-Champagne sparklers than this, not to mention its offering excellent value. 90 Pts Wine Advocate
BTG $8.75 Retail $21.99

2011 Felici Verdicchio
Marche, Italy
Beautiful straw yellow with golden highlights. A complex aroma of exotic fruits and cedar, elder broom, lemon flowers, wild fennel and thyme, finally mineral of flint. To the taste it is intense and savory, fresh, warm and persistent.
BTG $6.25 Retail $14.99

2010 Melville Estate Pinot Noir
Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara, Central Coast, California, USA
Presents an intriguing fabric of sweet candied cherries, rose petals, mint and sweet herbs. This is an especially juicy, yet medium-bodied Pinot built on finesse and elegance. The 2010 is simply gorgeous. 91pts Wine Advocate
BTG $12.25 Retail $32.99

2011 Baudry Chinon Les Granges Cabernet Franc
Chinon, Touraine, Loire Valley, France
Smells of fresh blackberry, chard, and artichoke. Firm and well-concentrated yet bright and buoyant on the palate, its sense of salinity, tart berry skin, and bitter-edged leafy greens makes for quite invigorating palate stain.
BTG $7.50 Retail $17.99

2010 Chave Mon Coeur Cotes de Rhone Syrah, Grenache
Southern Rhone, France
This dense ruby/purple-colored, rich 2010 reveals kirsch and black currant fruit intermixed with notions of spice box, pepper and meat. Luscious and round, it is ideal for drinking over the next 5-6 years. 90pts Wine Advocate, 90pts Stephen Tanzer

The wild fermentation along with extended lees maturation in a barrel has added complexity and texture to the palate on this Pinot Noir. This has created a supple wine with good weight and fruit intensity, which is already showing chocolate and cherry aromas mingled with hints of oak. The wine has a wonderfully vivid, violet hue.

2011 Zorzal Terroir Unico Malbec
Mendoza, Argentina
Comes from a 15-year-old espalier vineyard located 1,350 meters and is fermented with natural yeasts and aged in concrete tanks rather than wood. It has a wonderful bouquet with blackberry, tomato vine and granitic notes. It has what you might call a “naked” nose disrobed of oak, but it is very pure and vibrant. The palate is fresh and vibrant embroidered with brisk, fine tannins. It is suffused with lively pure black cherry and bilberry fruit and a taut, citric, dry finish. You would never guess this is from Argentina, and it is just downright, unapologetically delicious. Drink now-2017. 93 Pts Wine Advocate

Bold, juicy wine packed with super-ripe, dark red fruit. Made in a forward, plump style.
produced 82 barrels of this wine in 2008. Ripe cherry, baker’s chocolate, and spicy notes leap out of the glass to
form the aromatic profile. This is underlined by a palate of lush tannin, fresh berries, and rounded out by creamy,
integrated, oak nuance. 89pts Wine Advocate

This Tuesday we have a special guest! Matt Cline
Perhaps the best kept secret in California winemaking is the Contra Costa appellation. This area east of the San Francisco Bay area boasts some of the world’s oldest vines as well as some the most concentrated and powerful wines in California. It is a special place that makes a special kind of wine. The Three Winery was established by someone who is an expert on the region, Matt Cline. His family has been there over 100 years and his grandparents were part of the huddled masses that began planting grapes. However, they are perhaps best known for their contribution to the world of plumbing when they invented the system for what is today known as the hot tub, the first model bearing the family’s name, Jaccuzzi. His brother remains the owner of the larger commercial winery, Cline Cellars in the same region but Matt opted to stay small and concentrate on hand crafted cuvees sourced from some of the oldest vines on the planet Earth.

HOLLYWOOD VINE WINE TASTING
Tuesday, February19th, 2013
6-9 Pm
No charge for Tastings

2011THREE WINERY Zinfandel Contra Costa
It is a blend of 77% Zinfandel, 17% Petite Sirah, 4% Carignane, and 2% Alicante Bouschet. All the grapes in this blend come from vineyard blocks with extremely sandy-loam soils called Delhi loam. At less than 20 years of age, these younger vine Zinfandel grapes show the typical raspberry to blackberry fruit so dominate in the older vines in the area validating this Contra Costa appellation. The “field blend” contingent of this wine adds structure, color, cherry and black fruit flavors. There is a deep concentration of ripe black cherries and spice with a minerality (earthy berry) sneaking through. The mouth-feel is rich and balanced with a lingering peppery finish.
BTG $6.75 Retail $16.99

2009 Three Winery Zinfandel Old Vine
This wine is a blend of 77% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, 4% Carignane, 1% Mataro, and 2% Alicante Bouschet.
With an average age of vines over 100 years of which all are still being dry-farmed, there is a concentration of ripe blackberries and spice with a minerality (dusty berry) sneaking through. The Petite Sirah adds to this a firm tannin backbone along with boysenberries and pepper while the Carignane adds a pronounced fleshy mouth feel along with dark cherries and coffee notes. Our Mataro comes from vines that are now over 120 years old and add spice elements, violets, and complex phenolic structures that enhance the overall mouth feel and age ability of this wine.
BTG $7.50 Retail $18.99

2011 Three Winery Petite Sirah Contra Costa
Explosive aromas of blueberry preserves and sweet herbs. This Petite Sirah is ultra-concentrated and packed with blueberry flavors and firm tannins.
BTG $7.50 Retail $18.99

2010 Three Winery Old Vine Red Blend
A blend of 26% Zinfandel, 25% Petite Sirah, 25% Mataro, 20% Carignane, 3% Alicante Bouschet and 1% Black Malvoisie
The color is purple/black. The aromatic hold a luscious gumbo of blackberries, raspberries, violets and sweet herbs. The taste is rich, dense and chewy, packed with crushed black and red fruits, with a mouthfeel that is extravagantly lush and opulent.
BTG $7.50 Retail $18.99

From that long history comes a wine tradition of tastes and styles with its roots in the classic “Old World” of France, Germany and Italy, but also an acute awareness of the contemporary consumer, as has been defined by wine-making in the “New World” of California and Australia.
