2015 Artadi “Vinas del Gain”

Rioja, Spain

The 2015 Viñas de Gaín could very well be the finest bottling of this pure Tempranillo that comes from 20 to 30 different vineyards in the villages of Laguardia and Elvillar, located at altitudes of 400 and 700 meters on clay and limestone soils, from vines averaging 30 years of age that are farmed organically. This is a very open, expressive vintage of this bottling, serious but at the same time easy to drink. This is a clean and fruit-driven vintage. 92 Pts Robert Parker

BTG $9.50 Retail $23.99

2015 Bodegas Olivares “Altos de la Hoya”

Jumilla, Spain

Dry-farmed, ungrafted, old vines Monastrell with some 5% Garnacha fermented in 10,000-liter stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts and aged in used barriques and larger oak vats for six to eight months. This is serious and has depth and concentration, with black fruit and the oak nicely integrated into the wine. There are mineral notes of graphite and earth and a medium-bodied palate with fine-grained tannins and a tasty finish. 90 Pts Robert Parker

BTG $7.25 Retail 15.99

2016 Teso La Monja “Almirez”

Toro, Spain

The 2016 Almirez is brilliant! Made from 100% Tinta de Toro that spent 14 months in 30% new French oak, this full-bodied, concentrated 2016 is loaded with notions of blueberries, blackberries, cedar pencil, and cured meats. With terrific depth of fruit, notable purity, and a sexy, seamless style, it’s one of those knockout wines that way over-delivers! 94 Pts Deb Dunnuck, 92 Pts James Suckling

2017 Zenato Pinot Grigio

Veneto, Italy

BTG $6.50  Retail $11.99

Veneto, Italy

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc

Silty/morainic soils with the presence of clay are well-suited soils for Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Sandy soil elevates aromatics and creates softer wines, showing less tannin. The presence of clay allows a balancing act to sand, offering higher extract and color. Vinifying in stainless allows for the fresh red fruits to emerge together with peppery characteristics of the Cabernet duo.

BTG $8.00 Retail $18.99

Veneto, Italy

55% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 10% Corvinone, 5% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon

Brilliant ruby in color, Alanera delights the senses with a variety of aromas and flavors that include fresh and dried cherries and prunes, sweet spice, and hints of coffee and tobacco. On the palate, Alanera is full-bodied with elegant and velvety tannins. Vibrant acidity brings balance and freshness, and supports a long and harmonious finish. 93 Pts James Suckling

BTG $7.25 Retail $15.99

Veneto, Italy

85% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta

This wine is closely connected to the greatest wine of Valpolicella: Amarone. After pressing the dried grapes from which Amarone is made, the Valpolicella wine is passed over the still warm marc of Amarone. A second alcoholic fermentation begins which increases the alcoholic content and the wine becomes richer in color, bouquet. This is so refined and focused with layers of fruit and ultra-fine tannins. Plenty of chocolate and spice, too. Medium to full body, integrated tannins and a focused finish. 94 Pts James Suckling

BTG $10.00 Retail 24.99

2017 Atalaya Laya

This is a fruit-driven Garnacha Tintorera (aka Alicante Bouschet) blend with some Monastrell  from dry-farmed vines; it fermented in stainless steel followed by malolactic in barrel, where the wine matured for four months. This has a very expressive and gentle nose, with nice fruit and even some notes of flowers. It has tannins, but it’s not as aggressive as some might think.
