HOLLYWOOD VINE WINE TASTING

Tuesday February 12th 2019

6-9 Pm No charge for Tastings

NV  Juve Y Camps Brut Rose

Penedes, Spain

The NV Pinot Noir Brut Rose, a non-vintage sparkling wine from Pinot Noir grapes, which is quite dark-colored, displays a bright cherry red color with a showy nose of cherries, truffles and strawberry jam with a fresh, pungent palate, balanced acidity and flavors. Different, with a strong personality. It feels like a red sparkling wine, and quite good, by the way!  Juve & Camps is a very popular Cava producer in Spain, which seems to have improved its range and added a few luxury cuvees to their range while also moving to organic farming practices.

Clear yellow with green hues. The nose is fruity, expressing tropical aromas like mango, pineapple, and citrus. On the palate, there are delightful flavors of green apple, peach, and subtle notes of vanilla. There is freshness as well as structure and persistence. 92 Pts James Suckling

The mouth is succulent, with prune, small berries and a whiffle of noble spices. This wine is beautifully vibrant and balanced with a long, lingering finish.

2017 Vina Cobos Felino Malbec

Mendoza, Argentina

Violet red with black tones. An attractive nose with aromas of fresh black fruits and prunes. The palate displays good concentration, balance and sweet yet supple tannins. They increased the percentage of French oak and reduced the use of American oak a bit, and the wood seems better integrated, neatly folded into the fruit. 93 Pts James Suckling

BTG $8.00         Retail 18.99

2015 Black Slate Porrera

Priorat, Spain

The 2015 Black Slate Porrera is a custom blend of 60% Garnacha, 35% Cariñena and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from younger and older vines on slate soils. It’s a ripe and heady village red that is part of a collection of village wines from Priorat produced by different wineries in conjunction with US importer Eric Solomon. It fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats for 25 days and matured in 225- and 300-liter oak barrels for 12 months. The wine has a traditional profile, with ripe fruit and noticeable impact from the oak, following the house style. The palate is medium to full-bodied with some dusty tannins and an earthy finish.
