2014 Bodegas Ordoñez-Rueda Nisia Verdeja Old Vines
Rueda, Central Spain
(aged on its lees in a combination of stainless steel tanks and large French oak barrels) Light, bright gold. Vibrant, mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruit scents are complemented by suggestions of white flowers and quinine. Racy and sharply focused on entry and then more fleshy in the middle, offering sappy tangerine and pear flavors and a touch of fennel. Shows a silky quality on the finish, which hanges on with very good, minerally tenacity.

2013 La Follette Pinot Noir
North Coast, California
A complex and beguiling bouquet of fresh strawberry, vanilla pod and wild mushroom. The smooth entry leads to delicate red fruit flavors framed by soft tannins and savory notes. Balanced by acidity on the late-palate, the long finish is punctuated by a subtle earthiness. Overall, a complete and palate-pleasing rendition of coastal Pinot Noir.

2013 Ferraton Père & Fils Crozes-Hermitage La Matinière

Opaque ruby. A complex, smoke- and spice-tinged bouquet evokes fresh black and blue fruits, along with notes of mocha and olive paste. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, offering bitter cherry and dark berry flavors supported by juicy acidity and sharpened by a peppery nuance. Quintessential Syrah, displaying very good depth of flavor and no excess fat. Finishes with building sweetness, gentle tannins and very good persistence, leaving a note of cracked pepper behind. 91 Pts Vinous
