2012 Domaine Des Valanges Macon-Prisse “Les Clos” (Chardonnay)
Burgundy, France
Comes from 25-year-old vines and spends 7 months in stainless steel on the fine lees. It has great tension and focus on the nose with perfumed nectarine and honeysuckle scents that are a joy to behold. The palate is effervescent on the entry – an animated Macon with a fine line of acidity and a vibrant citric finish accompanied by spice and a hint of elderflower juice. Long and tender in the mouth. 92 Pts Wine Advocate

2010 Chateau De Marsan (Cadillac)

This has a good smoldering feel, with warm, steeped currant, plum and blackberry fruit melding nicely with bay leaf and charcoal notes. There’s solid flesh through the finish, with some chalky grip that needs brief cellaring to round into form. 90 Pts Wine Spectator
BTG $7.00 Retail $16.99

Piedmonte, Italy
Classic cranberry and raspberry notes; zippy lemon-acidity; no tannic bite Goes with everything
from hamburgers and pizza to vitello tonnato Lots of deliciousness, priced right and sustainable.
BTG $7.00 Retail $16.99

2011 Chapoutier Bila-Haut “Occultum Lapidem”
Roussillon, France
Sheer complexity on display here as in any of Bila-Haut’s wine, with mace, vanilla, licorice, wisteria and rowan taking things in a sweeter and spicier direction than found in their other 2011s. Enveloping richness and an almost velvet feel – so fine are the tannins here – make for a soothing finish whose deeply meaty and salty savor hold my salivary glands in thrall, reminding me of the scallop-like sweetness possessed by some of the finest and most minerally-inflected of white wines. This sensational value should drink beautifully through at least 2025. 94Pts Wine Advocate

NV Syltbar IL Concerto Prosecco

Tantalizing bubbles, they offer pleasantness and simplicity. Well balanced with the fragrance of grape aromas and delicate carbon dioxide, in a union that gives it a great freshness. To the nose, fruity with delicate notes of white peach, golden apple and pear, slightly citrus with subtle nuances of lemon. On the palette it is fresh and light but persistent, supported by an acidity that emphasizes the freshness and pleasant aftertaste.

2013 Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc

Intensely scented of capsicum, green beans and grapefruit with a whiff of dried herbs. The palate gives good concentration and a great backbone of freshness through the finish with good persistence. 88 Pts Wine Advocate

2012 Belle Glos Meiomi Pinot Noir
Monterey, Santa Barbara, Sonoma County
Deep, rich garnet color. The wine opens up with aromas of ripe berries, fresh cranberry, candy apple and malted vanilla, some of which carries through to the palate. There’s a hint of Granny Smith apple on first sip that beautifully balances out the rich cream soda and cherry cola notes. It is an extremely layered wine, both in structure and flavor, with a slight earthiness and sweet oak on the finish. The wine almost contradicts
itself, managing to display freshness and maturity all at the same time, which is achieved through careful blending.
BTG $8.00 Retail $19.99

2011 Inkberry Shiraz, Cabernet
Central Ranges, Austailia
Red currant, black currant and a hint of stewed plums. Medium bodied with hints of cool climate leafiness, subtle spices and fine white pepper. Juicy notes abound, backed by subtle integration of oak. 88 Pts Wine Spectator

2010 Renacer Enamore
Mendoza, Argentina
This joint venture with Allegrini is a blend of 60% malbec, 30% cabernet sauvignon and 5% each bonarda and cabernet franc, made from grapes partially dried by wind on the vines): Medium ruby. Sexy, slightly high-toned aromas of blackberry, mocha, cedar, violet and bitter chocolate lifted by a peppery note; hints at dried fruits without showing any raisiny character. Sweet, silky and seamless if a bit youthfully reduced, offering lush yet utterly fresh flavors of currant, plum and chocolate nicely framed by harmonious acidity. This very rich wine finishes with plush, ripe tannins and terrific length. In a distinctly European style. Always a delicious bottling and a big success in 2010. 92 Pts Stephen Tanzer
