2011 Urban Torrontes
Mendoza, Argentina
The 2011 Urban Uco Torrontes comes from a vineyard in Cafayate, but is vinified at the winery in Uco Valley and it is fermented in stainless steel over ten days. It has a very well-defined pineapple, grapefruit and white peach-scented bouquet with hints of passion fruit developing with aeration. The palate is very well-balanced with an understated, entry of dried apricot and a touch of dried ginger. It is very harmonious, understated with great purity towards the finish. Excellent. Robert Parker 91pts.
BTG $5.25 Retail $10.99

2011 Novellum Chardonnay
Languedoc Roussillon, France
The outstanding 2011 Novellum competes with some of the finest Macon-Villages wines one can find. It is made from 100% Chardonnay (from 25- to 30-year-old vines), aged three months in a combination of Burgundy barrels (30%) and stainless steel tanks (70%), and, somewhat innovatively, is aged on Viognier lees which gives it a honeysuckle and white peach-scented nose. There is also a salty sea breeze character reminiscent of the crushed oyster shell-like note my colleague David Schildknect often detects in Loire Valley whites. This crisp, fresh, medium-bodied Cotes Catalanes exhibits lots of earthy/terroir characteristics. Robert Parker 90 pts.
BTG $6.00 Retail $13.99

2011 Rio Madre Rioja
Rioja, Spain
It exhibits slightly riper blackberry fruit intermixed with notions of licorice, wood smoke, camphor and a vivid floral display. These cuvees are aged in French oak prior to bottling. Robert Parker 91 pts.
BTG $5.50 Retail $11.99

2010 Janasse Cotes Du Rhone Rouge Reserve
Southern Rhone, France
This is a custom cuvee made for the U.S. market by Eric Solomon from the dynamic, conscientious, remarkably consistent producer of Chateauneuf du Pape and Cotes du Rhone, Christophe Sabon. This Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Reserve, a blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Carignan, 10% Mourvedre and 10% Cinsault aged 12 months in foudre, is gorgeous. Kirsch liqueur dominates the aromatics and flavors. The wine’s deep ruby/purple color is followed by lots of floral, licorice, lavender, pepper, roasted meat and herbes de provence notes. This complex, concentrated, stunning Cotes du Rhone sells for a song. Robert Parker 92 pts.
BTG $7.75 Retail $18.99

2010 Vajra Langhe Nebbiola
Piedmont, Italy
The 2010 Langhe Nebbiolo is a deep, resonant wine endowed with serious structure and class. Dark red fruit, tobacco, mint and spices are some of the notes that emerge from the glass, but in the end, the 2010 is a wine of depth and structure. Although delicious today, the 2010 will start to blossom in another year or two. It shows remarkable depth and pure breed for a wine of its level. Readers looking for an easygoing Nebbiolo should look elsewhere. This is serious juice. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. 92 pts Robert Parker
BTG $9.75 Retail $24.99
