Wine Tasting 8/2

Posted in Hollywood Vine Events, Uncategorized by hvine on July 28, 2011 No Comments yet

Next Tuesday we’ll be tasting 5 faboulous wines that are completely different in profile and origin, they proudly represent their region and generations of experience in the execution of vinification.

Rías Baixas is Spanish “Denominación de Origen” (DO) for wines located in the Northwest region of Galicia, Spain. It is renowned for its white wines made from the Albariño grape variety. Deusa Nai clearly reflects this Albariño’s character. The brand name means “Mother goddess”, a term used to refer to a goddess who represents motherhood, fertility, creation or embodies the bounty of the earth.

TENZ is a winegrowing partnership between the Eddy Family (Napa Valley) and their Marlborough friends, Duncan and Gordon at Indevin and Chris and Judi Simmonds (primary Sauvignon Blanc grower). The Simmonds’s Vineyard, with its signature ‘lone gum’ standing majestically among the vines, lies in the Omaka Valley near the small town of Renwick, just a few miles from Cloudy Bay. Regarded by many as the heart of Marlborough, the Omaka Valley is protected by coastal mountains, making it one of the sunniest and driest areas in the region. The vineyard’s alluvial soils are thinly composed of gravelly loam and underlying layers of clay. Due to the cool night temperatures, winegrowing can get tricky and frost protection is often necessary, not only during the spring but also in the fall. However, it is this long, cool growing season that allows for the retention of the delicate aromatics that have made this region’s Sauvignon Blanc so famous.

RouteStock Cellars crafts wines from the signature varietals grown along the wine routes one travels when visiting the world’s most celebrated wine regions. Inspired by the serenity of Route 99W which meanders its way through the picturesque and sublime Oregon wine country.  Made for RouteStock Cellars at Ponzi Vineyards.

Superstar winemaker Alvaro Palacios, creator of L’Ermita and Finca Dofí in Priorat, is now extensively involved in the family estate in Rioja. Here he makes concentrated, lush wines, including two (Herencia Remondo and Propriedad H. Remondo) that are among the greatest wines produced to date from the normally hotter, drier Rioja Baja, which Palacios calls “La Rioja Oriental.”

“Our family has been making world-class wine in California for four generations. Here at the Michael Mondavi Family Estate we carry on the tradition by crafting a collection of wonderful wines, each reflecting a sense of place and passion. From the everyday to the extraordinary, we offer wines suited for any taste, budget or occasion.” _Michael Mondavi.

Winemaker and Napa Valley native Tony Coltrin brings more than 35 years of winemaking experience to Oberon Wines. Tony sources grapes from the Michael Mondavi family’s Oso Vineyard nestled against Howell Mountain, in addition to vineyards in premier Napa Valley sub appellations. Tony’s long-standing relationships with local growers ensure consistent quality in every vintage.
