Next Tuesday we’ll delect ourselves with a sparkling wine from Veneto, Italy that is refreshing and elegant; a Verdichio from central Italy that makes us salivate with Mediterranean flavors; followed by three big red Cabernet based wines from Tuscany, Paso Robles and Washington State; they posses power, elegance and terroir. Our last  wine is a very  special treat from Long Shadows Wineries which is a group of nine famous winemakers from around the world making seven highly rated wines from Washington State fruit. The “Nine Hats” includes California winemaker Randy Dunn (Feather), Augustin Huneeus (Pirouette), Bordeaux’s world famous wine consultant Michel Rolland (Pedestal), Australian John Duval (Sequel), and Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari (Saggi).

TREVISOL PROSECCO DI CONEGLIANO VALDOBIADENE, NV

This lively sparkling Italian wine is an excellent example of the Prosecco style. Imbued with buckets of summery character, it’s laden with white fruit and fully-flavored ripe apples. The palate offers elegance and finesse, supported by zesty acidity and a long, refreshing finish.

MARCHETTI VERDICHIO DEI CASTELLI DE JESI, 2009

Verdicchio and Malvasia grapes

This wine from the region of Marche is white to straw colored,  with a delicate and persistent nose, it tastes fresh, harmonic and slightly off-fruity follow by a sharp finish.

DONNA OLIMPIA TAGETO IGT, 200

Deep black almandine with black reflections and cherry rim. The bouquet is fairly intense, with a great rush of graphite shavings mingled with spice and some green bell pepper; also forest berry fruit. On the palate it’s medium bodied and bright, with fairly rich greenish bell pepper laced berry fruit supported by clean acidity and smooth tannins that have a glancing mineral overlay and flow into a clean bitter finish.

Structured grapes from Central and Western Paso Robles vineyards.  A wine of many layers, with coffee-berry flavors and a fine backbone of tactile tannins and oak spices

LONG SHADOWS NINE HATS BORDEAUX BLEND, 2008

Cabernet Sauvignon is the dominant grape at 54%, softened with 24% Merlot, 10% each Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec.

It’s big and juicy, with lots of dark cherry and plum flavors, cedar, toast, saddle leather, cigar smoke, espresso. Classic Washington red.
