BEER TASTING TOMORROW

FRIDAY OCTOBER 1ST ; FROM 7 TO 9

After 10 years, serving as a world-class sommelier, then another ten as an international industry executive, Joseph Carr set out on his own in 2005, to form his family-owned wine company. It was, as Mr. Carr says “a chance to follow a dream.” As director of Joseph Carr Napa Valley, He continues to work with many of the associates he has met throughout his long career; those who share his passion and desire to produce world class wines. Influenced by the wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, Joseph Carr’s winemaking philosophy is balance, sophistication and approachability. Mr. Carr, his wife Deirdre, his daughter Cailen, and Max, his dog, own and operate Joseph Carr Wines, producing fine wines from Napa Valley, California, along with limited production wines from Carneros and the Sonoma Coast. In 2009, New York Times writer, Eric Asimov, proclaimed Joseph Carr, a producer to watch for, and put his wines alongside the likes of Far Niente, Clos du Val, Heitz, Grgich Hills and Rubicon.

Joseph Carr has recently worked with Tom Larson to produce his second label, named “Josh Cellars” -his “vin de garage” -as he jokingly refers to it. It is a North Coast Vineyard project, from sites organically and sustainably farmed. It is dedicated to his father.

We are honored and pleased to welcome Joseph Carr to personally guide us through our next tasting.

Wine Tasting 9/21

The last tasting of the summer will feature 4 wineries from California and Washington; these wines are all a great value that are made by an outstanding team of winemakers, from fruit of the highest acclaimed vineyards, representing their unique character and intensity on every sip.

The owners of Napa’s legendary Screaming Eagle vineyard, the priciest and dearest of the cult cabernet sauvignons from Napa Valley, recently launched 101 Wine Company , their newest venture: Jonata, a fabulous vineyard north of Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley; with a fabulous team of winemakers led by Matt Deiss. The Paring wines are made from the younger vines that aren’t quite ready for the Jonata label. Crafted from premium grapes in the heart of Washington, 14 Hands is a special find. Named after the wild horses that once made their home on the land upon which 14 Hands grapes are grown, the wine retains the individual spirit of its namesake. Pali Wine Co. founded in 2005 and located in Santa Barbara makes delicious Pinots from designated California and Oregon AVAs. Kenneth Juhasz is the award wining Winemaker. It was a match born out of fire. just 25 years ago a pair of visionaries transformed a piece of land tucked away in a peaceful valley in the Dunnigan Hills just thirty minutes northwest of downtown Sacramento. Here Toasted Head sprang to life in a blaze of passion, imagination and, as it turns out, actual flames; a welcoming verdant oasis in contrast to the golden hues surrounding it.

Wine Tasting 9/7

Posted in Hollywood Vine Events, Uncategorized by hvine on September 2, 2010 No Comments yet

This week we visit 3 different continents.

MAN Vintners began with three friends and an idea: to make a wine that they would love to buy. Good quality, excellent value, and cool packaging. “Keeping peace in the family, we took the initials of our wives. So that is how they explained to Marie, Anette, and Nicky that “ we were going to be busy most weekends. It’s for you! we told them”. Neil Ellis has his winery in the gorgeous Jonkershoek Valley, South Africa. All of his wines reflect attention to detail and a commitment to quality, but to find a wine like the Sincerely at this price point is a rare thing these days. In his “hommage” to Sancerre (Sancerrely?) Neil blends fruit from multiple vineyards located in the wards of Groenekloof and Stellenbosch, with an average age of 12 years and up to 22, and soils of decomposed granite and some clay.

From Modesto, California; inspired by the “Apotheca,” a mysterious place where wine was blended and stored in 13th century Europe, Apothic Red it’s a great bottle for the fruit first wine lover.

Beaucastel and its subsidiary wines marketed under the Perrin et Fils moniker are consistently among the bright shining stars of the Rhone Valley in France. Brothers Jean-Pierre and Francois Perrin have an incredible respect for the vineyards, a conscientious, uncompromising work ethic, and extraordinary passion for gentle handling of fruit from their sites, at the same time the Perrins are remarkably flexible if they sense that quality can be improved. The Perrins continue their tradition of innovation through Tablas Creek, founded in conjunction with their longtime importer Robert Haas. They make several trips a year to California, and are actively involved in Tablas Creek’s winemaking, viticulture and management; The partners imported the traditional varietals grown on the Perrins’ celebrated estate, including Mourvèdre, Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Counoise for reds. The vineyards and winery are on a 120-acre property in the hills north and west of Paso Robles which received its organic certification in January 2003.
