DOMAINE VIRGINIE LA GRANGE VIOGNIER, 2008

Vin de Pays, France ; the combination of some bottle age with the oak has resulted in a complexity and depth you seldom discover in a Viognier. There’s a hint of spice, some flowers… A mineral edge on the palate which is quite rich, textured with a lime acidic finish. An excellent length.

Scribblings Rating – 90/100

BTG $6.00                                  Retail $15.99

Grenache  43 %, Syrah  19 %, Cinsault 7 %, Carignan maceration carbonique 5%, Traditional Carignan  25 %, Mourvèdre 1 %

This wine’s personality comes from the predominant Grenache picked very ripe, which now gives it body, ripeness and elegance; it is bright, clear, colour between fuchsia and purple, shades of fresh red fruits (raspberry), sweet lightly peppery spices and liquorice notes, very well-balanced wine, rounded fleshy mouth-feel with lively fresh finish.
